The new European EMC directive, which became  European law on 20th July 2007, will force companies to change their approach to EMC testing. This directive was born out of the SLIM initiative (Simplification of Legislation for the Internal Market), the intention being to reduce the administrative burden, and hence cost, on companies attempting to steer their products through the CE minefield. The role of competent bodies has changed radically. Emphasis on “Full Compliance Testing” will gradually fade and more responsibility will rest on the manufacturers' self-certification process. This self-certification process will benefit from integration into a company's quality system, in a similar way to that advocated by the R&TTE directive in Annex V (referred to in Article 10 "Full Quality Assurance"). Inevitably this will mean that companies will need to control their EMC documentation much more rigorously.

After thirteen years working closely with EMC testing and heavy involvement in the R&TTE legislative process, including the writing of Standards for testing, METECC is here to assist companies with this new age of self-certification.
